ANNAUL SQUASH TOURNAMENT FINALS NIGHT

Stirling Lawn Tennis and squash Club had their finals night of their Annual Squash Tournament on Friday night. The tournament consisted of initial Group stages, followed by a knockout tournament in the latter stages.  The top players of each group went into the Championship Tournament, and the lower players in each group went into the Plate Tournament.

The evening consisted of the Championship Final, Plate Final and for the first time a Bronze medal match was held between the 2 losers of the semi-finals in the Championship Tournament.

The bronze medal match was won by Lee Masson who beat Alastair Sellick(15-3, 15-12, 15-11)

The plate Tournament was won by Andrew Robertson, who beat Danny Maxwell (15-11, 15-8, 15-11).

The Championship Tournament final was played between Defending Champion Keir Cramb and Eoghan Meaney.  This was an epic final, and was described as “the best final of the Club’s Championship” many long standing members of the club had ever seen.  The match was best of 5 games,  each game being to 15 points.  The winner of each game requires to win by 2 clear points.  The first 2 games were narrowly won by Keir, with both games only being won by 2 points (15-13, 18-16).  Eoghan then fought back winning the 3rd game a bit more convincingly (15-6).  Another tight 4th game saw Eoghan winning (18-16) taking the match to 2-2.  The final deciding game went to 13-13.  This then resulted in 4 rallies during which both players had 2 match point opportunities each.  Keir then managed to take the match on his 3rd match point, regaining his Champion status, winning the 5th and final game (17-15).

  • AMERICAN TOURNAMENT AND AFTERNOON TEA - 05/09/2021

Yet again another successful and thoroughly enjoyable American Tournament in warm, sunny weather with a very healthy turnout of club members. Graeme’s unique ability to set favourable handicaps gave everyone a fair chance of winning no matter the standard of play! The afternoon tea of yummy sandwiches, scrumptious cakes and homemade biscuits was devoured with relish and hardly a crumb was visible on empty plates. A huge thanks to Graeme for organising the matches, to the bakers and sandwiches makers and to the enthusiastic tennis players.

To be repeated!!

SQUASH LEAGUES - 26/08/21

Squash Leagues will start again at the beginning of September. All members are welcome to join the leagues. If you want to be included in the leagues, whether you played in them last year or not, please send a message through the Contact page on the website with your name, mobile number and e-mail address, or add your details to the sheet on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.

SQUASH / RACEKTBALL CLUB NIGHTS ARE BACK!! - 21st August 2021

In accordance with official guidance, Squash / Racketball clubnights will now start again on a Monday and Thursday evening (7pm - 10pm). Courts will be reserved for this period. It is a choice for individual members to attend if you feel it is safe. If you have not been to a Clubnight before, you are welcome to come along. Everybody rotates playing different people. Showers still remain closed. When attending clubnights the following requires to be adhered to:

1. Do not attend the club if you have tested positive for covid, or are showing covid symptoms.

2. Masks to be worn in the clubhouse, with the exception of when on the court.

3. Members attending the clubnight require to add their name to the notepad pinned to the noticeboard for track and trace purposes.

Tennis Handicapped  Tournament   Report  :  1 August 2021

Were you there? Or did you miss it?  24 of your fellow members didn’t and had an amazing day of tennis (on Sunday 25theJuly) under a cloudless sky. good company, a lot of banter and an excellent barbecue for the princely sum of £2 entry fee and a “suggested  donation” of a fiver for the food. (Everyone donated!)

Fabulous prizes, brand new tennis balls to play with (at no extra charge), some glorious shots and shot-making of the highest calibre were all the order of the day.  The handicapping was spot-on (with just one or two small grumbles) and the eventual highest scorers were Kelly Bayes for the Ladies and Dominic Gillen for the Gentlemen.

And the winners were the members themselves who feasted on the tastey spread provided by Fiona Paterson and her very capable food supporters, and supplemented by Mark Worsley’s skilful hands at the (hot) charcoal-face of the fiery furnace.

Rumours abound as to when the next one will take place (possibly before or after the Club Championships take place), so watch this site carefully with (digital) pen and paper at the ready.

19.7.21 - Adults are able to play squash with people from different households

With Scotland going into Level 0, the club are delighted to announce as of 19th July, we can return to adults playing squash and racketball with members of other households. You will be updated in respect of how things move forward from here, but at the moment we are only moving to playing friendly squash / racketball matches with other members. Club nights on a Monday and Thursday evening are not returning yet. The advice from Scottish Squash is that a return to squash / racketball should be a gradual process.

Clubhouse rules will be reviewed as further guidance comes out, but current rules in the clubhouse and of booking courts still apply. These include:
1. If you have tested positive for Covid, have been advised to self isolate, or have symptoms, you should not come to the club.

2. All courts should be booked on Clubspark so the club can comply with track and trace.

3. Masks should be worn in the clubhouse, with the exception of whilst playing on the squash court.

4. Hand sanitiser should be used before going on, and after coming off the court. These are available in the clubhouse.

5. Changing rooms and toilets remain open, but showers remain closed. The showers opening again are under review.

6. No spectating should take place in the viewing gallery. This will need to be reviewed when we return to clubnights.

In surmmary, all adults can return to playing a game of squash or racketball with any other member.

16.7.2021 - Defibrillator

The club now has a defibrillator currently mounted to the right of the front door as you enter. It is an IPAD SP1 model, fully automatic. If the worst happens, you just open it up, press the ON button, and it will tell you what to do. It is approved by the Scottish Ambulance Service, and Eddy is arranging for them to visit the club later in July to conduct a training session.
