2023 TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS 


The draws for this years tennis championships have been made.

The singles and ladies doubles will be round robin format.

Championship Rules are detailed below:

Rules

 

1.     Matches to be played on the courts of Stirling Lawn Tennis and Squash Club between May and September 2023. Seven competitions will run: Ladies Singles, Ladies Singles Plate, Ladies Doubles, Men’s Singles, Men’s Singles Plate, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

 

2.     This is a closed competition. Only members of the Club may enter.

 

3.     Any junior members entering will need to be approved by the Tennis Convenor. Junior members who have played for one of the adult teams are likely to be accepted, junior members who are in the current U16 squads will be considered but no guarantees can be made.

 

4.     Seeded knockout draws will be in operation for all bar the Men’s Singles, Ladies Singles & Doubles which will be Round Robin followed by knockout format. Matches to be the best of three tie-break sets.

 

5.     Men’s Round Robin – top two qualify for the last sixteen, with the points and positions dictated by the number of sets won.  In the event of a tie then the match between those two opponents will be used to decide position. In the event of a three-way tie then games difference will be used.  The bottom one/two will enter the plate competition.

 

6.     Ladies Round Robin - top two qualify for the final, with the points and positions dictated by the number of sets won. In the event of a tie then the match between those two opponents will be used to decide position. In the event of a three-way tie then games difference will be used.  3rd and 4th will qualify for the Ladies Plate Final

 

7.     The Gents and Mixed doubles competitions will remain a straight knockout competition -the pairings have been randomly drawn.  The Ladies Doubles will be a round robin with the top two qualifying for the final – again the pairings have been randomly drawn

 

8.     Please see the individual draw sheets for when the matches need to be completed by together with round robin groups

 

9.     Dates have been set for the completion of rounds. Entrants will be expected to play their matches within the given timetable.  

 

10.                        Both entrants are responsible for contacting their opponent(s). Both sides should bring balls.

 

11.                        The decision of the Tennis Convenor is final. Dates will be enforced and, if necessary, entrants eliminated from the competition if matches are not played. In previous years, delays in playing matches have caused significant issues - this rule will be enforced far more strictly this year and both players (') could face elimination.

 

12.                        The Tennis Convenor reserves the right to change the competition format depending on the number of entries.

 

13.                        All players are to advise the Tennis Convenor of their match scores but also update the draws in the clubhouse (Chris Speirs (07940700292 or chris.speirs@btinternet.com)

 

 

14.                        Finals Day will be Sunday 10th September 2023. Please ensure you are available for that day, as all finals are to be played on that day. If you are not available you will be asked to scratch from the competition.
